Calloused Hearts

“It is a good thing to have a heart within us smiting us for sins that seem little; it is a sign that conscience is awake and tender, and will be the means of preventing greater sins.” ~ Matthew Henry My hands have callouses. Awhile back, I tried softening them up by following some home remedies I discovered while researching. One site advised to soak hands in warm water for five minutes then apply Vaseline. Although the rough areas are not completely gone, I can definitely tell a difference! There is something so sweet about the softness of a newborn baby’s skin. Of course, that softness is accompanied by an extra sensitivity. Because of this, much care is taken with gentle baby cleansers, detergents, etc. while harsher soaps and shampoos are reserved for older family members. Talk Is Cheap

“Talk is cheap.” This quote came to my mind when I read the following verse recently: “In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.” Proverbs 14:23 If the Lord does not return, and He allows me to see this new year come to an end, I would like to be able to do so with a sense of accomplishment – to the glory of God! I would like to be able to say that this year was  profitable. But, how often are goals and resolutions just “the talk of the lips” that are quickly forgotten? Talk is cheap and only leads to penury or extreme poverty. Failing to stay on track with our goal to study His Word and therefore grow as a Christian will lead to spiritual poverty.
