Ephesians 4:112: “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ”

The scriptures give us all the reason we need to obey the Lord and use the Evangelist on a regular basis. The reason being that they add something that we cannot receive anywhere else. If someone in our church was talented in singing or playing the piano and had a good testimony and was a member in good standing we'd want their contribution so why not allow the Evangelist to be used by the Lord?

Heb 10:25: “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

In these final days of the church age we are supposed to be meeting more and not less yet more churches are canceling Sunday night or Wednesday night services. Hebrews 10:25 says we are to be exhorting each other.

The Evangelist normally has the gift of exhortation so to not use him would be disobeying the Lord. If pastors and evangelists pray about Revival meetings or special meetings the Lord will bring them together. I believe the Evangelist prays for meetings but how many pastors are praying about it on the other end. Our enemy is subtle and has subtly given us excuses for not having them.

A God called Evangelist will bless any size church and will go to any size church and our people will be energized in the Spirit as a result.

Sometimes we pastors worry too much about what others will know or find out about our church. That we really are not setting the woods on fire all the time and that it is difficult to make disciples and get folks to support all the services. There are no perfect churches as we have told our people before. We all can use help in some areas of the church that are lagging. We pastors need to hear preaching also by a God called Evangelist because the Lord can use him to speak to us.

They can help us in perfecting the saints for the work of the ministry. We should want to hear what is in the heart of a God called Evangelist in these final days of the Church Age so we can stay focused and have a balance in our ministry. They will edify the church. It will be stronger when they leave it. I have been blessed to know some God called evangelists through the years and value them greatly.

I have been amazed at pastors who feel their church needs a revival meeting and a stirring of their people toward the things of God who has in another pastor for the meeting instead of a God called Evangelist.

The pastor they have in also has a church that needs to be stirred.  So in many cases they have each other for a meeting instead of using a God called Evangelist.  Both churches see no evidence of a stirring of the people.  I have never been able to understand that kind of arrangement.

These are simply thoughts that were taught to me many years ago from my pastor and I believe he was right.
