IT MATTERS HOW YOU DRESS!

We are now told by many, including many Fundamentalists, it doesn't matter how  you dress when you go to Church. God doesn't care (that's what they say) whether you wear dungarees, shorts, sneakers, etc. Even sensual clothing on the women is tolerated, if not appreciated. Yet dress is important in many lesser areas.

I remember back in the late sixties when Jerry Rubin, et al, were put on trial for conspiracy and a number of other serious charges. They were all what you might call typical wild, grubby-looking hippies. I read at that time, they were instructed by their lawyers to come into court well-groomed, wearing two or three piece suits. In other words, make a good appearance.

It was not too long ago that I read an article by someone who counsels people on how to apply for a job. One of the rules was to be well-dressed, make a good appearance. The Bible says, “Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31). Now, we are not trying to show off for God – obviously. But should we not show respect.

When you go to church looking like a bum, or a night-club singer, are you glorifying God? I've said it many times: I can't remember if I ever saw someone, saved or unsaved, go to a wedding or a funeral dressed like they were going to go mow the lawn or wash the car.

Yet some of God's people (I hope they are saved) go to worship God that way. It wasn't too many years ago when people went to Church, saved and unsaved alike, they wore their Sunday best. I believe we have had more people visit our church and like it, only to leave when they find we have a dress code than for any other reason.

These are supposedly Fundamental Bible believers. For women many are more interested in wearing pants to Church than they are in the truth – their husbands must concur with it for thy allow it. Even worse – the preachers allow it!
