PARROTS!

I get sick and tired of parrots in the church – but, wait – I’m getting ahead of myself again.

I was on duty one time and after an early morning emergency run, I turned on the television.

The show was “Those Amazing Animals,” and it was very interesting to watch.

One man had brought five parrots to the show.  Each parrot could mimic some other creature.

One parrot mooed like a cow.

Another crowed like a rooster.

Still another was told to act like an eagle, and he made sounds just like one.

Another parrot was told to bark like a dog.  The sound he made was amazing like a bark.

Then the man told the show host that the last parrot would sound like a person – he could talk.

No one seemed to believe the trainer.  He brought the parrot out and commanded, “Sing Old McDonald Had A Farm.”

The bird sang, “Old McDonald had a farm EE-AYE-OH.”

I was amazed, and then the Holy Spirit prompted my thinking.

We have parrots in our churches.  They make all the sounds of a Christian, but they are parrots only.

Jesus recognized religious parrots: He said to them, “Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but there heart is far from me”. (Matt. 15:7-8)

Parrots !

I’ve had them in every church.  They make all the right sounds, but they finally reveal themselves as religious parrots, not spiritual people.

More than anything else, I want to be genuine.  I do not want to be found to parrot the right words but end up condemned as a hypocrite.

How about you, my friend?

Do you want to be genuine?

Do you want to be real”?

I trust that your heart’s  desire  is  to BE TRUE, SPEAK TRUTHFULLY, ACT TRUTHFULLY, AND NOT DECEIVE!

Praise God!
