WHAT IS TRUTH?

Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?  (John 18:38)

Pilate did not know the truth or what was truth (John 18:38), but he did recognize the hopelessness of trusting the countless nebulous, conflicting, and contradictory authorities of his day. Pilate was discouraged from any further pursuit of truth because of his past experiences with "so called" truth. Men of learning are even worse off today. As Pilate was unable to recognize the living Word standing before him, Bible Correctors are unable to recognize the living written word before them, the Authorized King James Bible. It is becoming increasingly apparent that such men are placing equal or more value on human authority and history, something even Pilate was unwilling to do.

History, philosophy, and science are far from infallible and are sinking sand, when it comes to building one's spiritual house there upon. Human authority is often mistaken, therefore untrustworthy. Humanistic, extra-scriptural jargon, which has no place in the scriptures nor the prophets nor the apostles nor Christ, should not be a believer's authority nor be found in the believer's sacred vocabulary.

It seems reasonable to expect that on matters of such importance as the scriptures that the scriptures themselves should and could provide the answer to questions about the word of God. After all, they do promise to"throughly" furnish the man of God (2 Tim. 3:16). Bible Correctors are not satisfied to accept the scriptures in all matters of faith and practice by themselves, although they would argue, armed with their church covenants and statements of faith that they do just that.

The replacement authorities for faith and practice, which are in vogue, are history and W.E. Vine's better renderings of the Hebrew and Greek scriptures. Of course, there is not an inkling in Scripture, regarding our responsibility or subservience to either. It is an assumption to say that the Original Scriptures were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.

We are not saying that this was not the case; we are saying that it is an assumption. That there were scriptures written in Hebrew and Greek is born out by the fact that we have them. Still, there is no proof that the scriptures were all originally written in Hebrew and Greek.

Nevertheless, if the jot and tittle cover or promise perpetuity to the Hebrew, how is it that the underlying word for jot is an iota? And how is the Greek guaranteed perpetuity by the tittle? Obviously, the English meaning of jot and tittle comes into play here, i.e., the smallest intelligible parts.

W.E. Vine's study of New Testament words was published in 1940. The R.S.V. New Testament was published in 1946. Many renderings in the R.S.V. and other perversions parrot Vine's better Greek renderings. It is a curious thing that men should complete the circle by demanding that these corrupt renderings are authenticated by the very book, from all indications, is responsible for their existence. Nevertheless, men do love darkness rather than light . . . don't they?
