Supreme Court Decision Opens Virtual Door for Purveyors of Child Porn

The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down a congressional ban on
"virtual" child pornography. The court has ruled 6-3 that the First
Amendment protects pornography or other sexual images that only appear to
depict real children engaged in sex. Tuesday's ruling is rooted in the
technical definition of what is considered "child porn." At issue is
technology that allows pornographers to alter or enhance pictures that may
depict children engaged in sex, while arguing that the children are not real
but merely computer-generated images.
Cardinal Urges Abuse Victims To Contact The Church

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Cardinal William Keeler said Tuesday that he will
send a tape-recorded message to the archdiocese's 162 parishes, urging anyone
who has been abused by a priest to contact the church. The recording will be
played during Mass on Sunday. The archdiocese covers about 484,000 Catholics in
Baltimore and nine counties. The specifics of Keeler's tape recorded message to
parishioners were not released.

SANTA ROSA -- A Roman Catholic priest was found not guilty Tuesday of
raping a 14-year-old girl near the altar of a church in 1977, but guilty of two
counts of lewd conduct involving the molestation of a 13-year-old girl in 1981.

city in Ohio to extend health benefits to the same-sex partners of city
employees. City Council voted in favor of an ordinance enacting the change
Monday night after listening to a divided crowd of more than 200 speak for

Man Gets 17 Years For Child Porn
The Daily Herald
A man who admitted producing child pornography in his Lynnwood trailer
has been sentenced to 17½ years in federal prison for five crimes against
children. Anthony J. Weir, 48, pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday by U.S.
District Court Judge Thomas Zilly. Two of the counts charged that Weir produced
child pornography in Lynnwood, involving girls who were 9 and 12 years old.
