Luke
12:15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware
of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of
the things which he possesseth.
1 Tim 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain
we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into
many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and
perdition.
10
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted
after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.
11
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow
after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal
life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession
before many witnesses.
I. FLEE (verse 11)
1 Cor 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth
is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own
body.
19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which
is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Cor 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee
from idolatry.
Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the
earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and
covetousness, which is idolatry:
2 Tim 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but
follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord
out of a pure heart.
II. FOLLOW
Mat 4:18 And
Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and
Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow
me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 And they straightway left their nets,
and followed him.
21 And going on from thence, he saw other two
brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with
Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
22
And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
Mat 8:19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I
will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
20
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air
have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
21 And another of his disciples said unto
him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22
But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury
their dead.
23 And when he was entered into a ship,
his disciples followed him.
24 And, behold, there arose a great
tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves:
but he was asleep.
25
And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save
us: we perish.
26
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then
he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27
But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds
and the sea obey him!
Mat 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew,
sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And
he arose, and followed him. Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come
after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow
me.
Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever
will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
Mat 16:26 For what is a man
profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what
shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
III. FIGHT
1 Tim
6:12 Fight
the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou
art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many
witnesses.
1 Cor 9:24 Know ye not that they
which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may
obtain.
25
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all
things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an
incorruptible.
26
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as
one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into
subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself
should be a castaway.
2 Tim 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier
of Jesus Christ.
4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of
this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to
be a soldier.
2 Tim 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have
finished my course, I have kept the faith: U
