TORCH EDITOR: This was the last message Bro. Roloff preached, in October 1982, brought to a large group of preachers before the Lord took him home. It was at the Southwide Baptist Fellowship meeting held at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. For further comments see EDITOR'S COMMENTS on page two, before starting to read this message.
My text has already been quoted Ä "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." (Psalm 121:1)
Two men looked out of prison bars Ä one saw the mud and the other one saw stars Ä a difference in the direction. I want to preach tonight on HILLS THAT HELP. What do you see tonight? I want to pray.
Our Father, this is more than a man sized task and I pray that this night the message of the Lord will be spoken and received Ä heard and hearkened to, and Father, I am convinced that what I am going to preach is right. I pray that it will help the people and that you will pulverize souls and minds and give us a clear cut divorce from the world. I pray now that the Holy Spirit may breathe on this great congregation. Bless Bro. Box. Thank you for him and all these preachers that are here. May they have mercy now and be prayerful. Save us from being critical and when the truth is preached, I pray it will find lodging in every heart. In Jesus Name, Amen.
I request the right tonight and the privilege to preach, since it is my 50th anniversary, until I get through or give out. That is all I ask of you. I am going to do it anyhow, but I just want you to understand that if I ever intend to have any rank, I had better start pulling it. I am going to do it tonight. I'll tell you one thing, I don't intend to waste my time or yours while I am preaching tonight.
No preacher has a right to be confused or wrong. When you climb in the pulpit and introduce your message by saying, "I may not be right", you are in the wrong place already. When you climb in the pulpit and say, "Folks, I have had so many problems, I am confused," you are in the wrong place right there.
The Bible says it you believe on the Lord you will not be confused, "For God is not the author of confusion." (1 Cor. 14:33) We need no uncertain notes coming from the pulpit today Ä there is enough sitting in the pew. The one man that must be right is the preacher and he can be right and know it without being arrogant, egotistical or proud. Just simply say, "the Lord told me what was right."
I was right 50 years ago when my mama gave me that Book (KJV). If I was right then with this Book, I am right now and if I change Books, I'd be wrong. Let me just announce to you right now, because there will be people that will be raising the question mark - don't ever tackle what you saw up here awhile ago unless you have this Book right here. I wouldn't waste the time of day on you.
(TORCH EDITOR: Bro. Roloff was holding up his King James Bible. Some of the girls from his homes had just finished singing and quoting scripture.)
Those girls have been as low as can be - they have been in psycho wards; they have been in shock treatment. Our boys have been in prisons. Everyone of them came to us in trouble and this was the Book that brought them out of it.
Before you criticize what I am going to preach tonight, just go out and start and bear the fruit that these young people are bearing tonight. You can't beat what this Book has to offer.
I am concerned. I am not confused, but I am disturbed about what is happening in this country. I am going to go back to the 1950's and the head waters of the 1960's. Everybody is talking about the new religion - humanism.
You need to know tonight where humanism started. It didn't start in the world - it started in the Church. It couldn't live if we hadn't built an atmosphere and a society that it can live in. Humanism came out of our religious schools.
Luke, chapter 20, verse 18: "Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."
Now, turn back to Matthew, chapter 20, verses 26:28: But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."
Psalm 119:1 says, "Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against God."
In Matthew 21, verse 42 we find: "Jesus saith unto them, did ye never read in the scriptures, the stone which the builders rejected the same is become the head of the corner? this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?" Now verse 44: "And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken? but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder."
America is in the powder mill tonight and the powder mill was built because we got away from the Word of God. People have not just rejected the Word, they hate the Word. They seek to destroy the Word.
All right, Matthew, chapter 22, verse 29, "Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God." And that's it - now then, John, chapter 1, verse 1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Verse 14, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
Let's go to the first Hill. How about
THE HILL OF SINAI - MOSES
The lawyer went up there, didn't he? The leader - Moses. Amidst the thunder and the lightning came the first five books of the Bible. These books - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy - were given to Moses by God Himself.
During the 1960's the Beatles came - the mop-tops - the dope. BBC came and filmed our work this year and the newspaper came and wrote up a long story. Their conclusion was "old- fashioned, victorian philosophy." That was their theme song. They said, "the girls have uniforms, the boys dress like gentlemen and look like they are in the military, etc. They mind and there is no problem with discipline in the schools."
They said, "what do you think about that Bro. Roloff?" I said, "Better than the Beatles you shipped over to us. You didn't help us when you shipped that bunch over here."
Would you believe and isn't it sad that more than 7,000 rain soaked, tear-soaked, poor misguided souls met on the 5th birthday of the death of Elvis Presley and stood in the rain to pay tribute to the man that killed so many young people? Aborted their hopes, poisoned their minds - over 7,000 stood in the rain to pay tribute to a man that was killed by his own music and his own dope.
In the 1960's there was a mad Madeline O'Hair that got loose and wound up in the Supreme Court. She said to nine magestic magistrates, "we can get rid of the Bible - we don't want the Bible or prayer in the school." Would you believe they would listen to a woman like that? Since then, we have had nothing but violence, bloodshed, rebellion, and teacher's strikes in the public school.
I was down at Bob Jones University to a conference on "Advocates in Adversity". Now that just means we are all in trouble and they are in trouble. On October 12 they are going before the Supreme Court.
Let me get something off my chest now. What about this IRS business anyhow? You mean that if the IRS takes our exemption away from us, we are going to all quit? Why, man, we were in business before that new kid ever got on the street.
Let me say something else - preacher, if your church can run you off, you ought to be run off. If you haven't got better hold than that, you just better take off now and if the IRS can stop us - can stop a ministry as missionary as this ministry, let them have at it.
Folks, we don't belong to the DHR - that's the Department of Human Resources. We belong to the Department of Divine Resources. The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of this whole thing. The Holy Spirit is the Administrator and the King James Bible is our rules and regulations.
I am trying to say something tonight and that is - when we get away from this Book - when we get away from that Hill - we are in trouble. Now I know there is trouble brewing. Brother when Moses came down - God had said "You better get down there; there is something going on wrong. There is war in the camp."
They walked into the camp and they saw the first nudist colony - that's right. Sin, false religion, golden calf, worldly associate pastor - there it is. Let me once again raise the question - what did Moses do? He had an armload of the Word of God - the first five books of the Bible. He dropped the tables of stone and they were broken. After he had fasted 40 days and 40 nights, God gave him the Word.
You know that might be a good way to stop a lot of these people from rewriting the Bible - make them fast 40 days and 30 nights before they rewrite it. Boy, that would cut down on the new revisers.
What did Moses do? He stood in the camp and said, "Who is on the Lord's side?" Reckon where the preachers have gone that knew how to draw a line and say, "Get over here or I'll kill you"? He didn't stand there like a wet noodle from Jello Seminary with a little tapioca devotion and say, "Something good's going to happen to you". No, brother, he had the conviction of the Word of God.
Though it may be laying in the dirt, he had enough of it in his heart to say, "Who is on the Lord's side - get over here". And those that didn't, he killed everyone of them. That sounds like capital punishment. Brother, since last I met with you we have had a lot of things to happen in this country - strange and horrible things are happening that you cannot believe.
So there came the Word of God. Now the question seems to be today, God gave His Word but somehow or another He lost the power to protect it and keep it. So every Tom, Dick and Harry has come along and said, "I believe I will rewrite it. That's where humanism started right there. That built the atmosphere and that tore up some things in this country when people began to say, "We will just rewrite it. We will make it sound better and easier to read."
Let me give you something here. I saw this in my briefcase awhile ago. I am glad I have it. "The King James Bible is clarified. It took 130 to do it. Took $4,000,500 to pay for it." Sam Moore is my friend. He has been to see me and I love him, but let me tell you something - love doesn't have a thing to do with my convictions. Now you put that down. You say, "Well, I'm going to get mad". Help yourself.
Now, listen to this - "There is no use for people to read the King James Bible, or any other Bible, if they can't understand it, says Mr. Sam Moore, president of Thomas Nelson publishers of Nashville, which turned out the refurbished version called The New King James Version. It clears away the often befuddling, obsolete usages and makes the great old work currently comprehensible, without losing the literary grandeur. In a matter of time the King James Version was going to be deserted if it was not updated, says scholar Arthur Farstad of Dallas, who headed the New Testament team for reworking. That heritage should not be lost - it is great literature."
It's more than that - it's the Word of God. Brother, I have never found any need on earth that this Bible wouldn't meet and you haven't either. I am just simply saying, some of these things we don't need.
Notice, he said, "It is published by the same Company that publishes the Revised Standard Version of 1952, which has been jointly approved by most major Protestant and eastern orthodox denominations and gives them and Roman Catholicism a common Bible." NOT BY ME!
Now, here is your Reader's Digest. They have just as much right and are just as qualified to rewrite and butcher the Bible as Mr. Hickley. I know it is endorsed by George Weber, New York Theological Seminary; Norman Vincent Peale, Oral Roberts, Duke McCall, Orville Freeman, etc.
Do you know what they said? Mr. Duke McCall - "A creative, new and effective approach at a time when the Bible is still the unread best seller in the land. I welcome this newest effort to entice people to read what God has said."
Norman Vincent Peale said, "The Reader's Digest is to be congratulated for bringing the Book on which our country was founded to the attention of the population in this relatively innovative manner."
Hear me now - if that illegitimate child of a prostitute - that's what it is - had of been on the Mayflower, it would never have made it over here. You want my illustration? Here it comes.
I weighted 80 lbs. for three years. It looked like I would never get any bigger. Suppose somebody knocked on my door and mama said, "Lester, sonny boy, you had better run to the door. Somebody is knocking." I go to the door and I say, "Come on in." A great big bruiser sort of a fellow walks in with a big butcher knife. I say, "Bud, what do you have on your mind?" He says, "I want to see your mother." I would say, "Yes sir, I'll be standing between you and my mother as long as you have that butcher knife." I say, "what have you got on your mind?"
My sweet, wonderful, simple, precious mother says, "Sonny boy, what does he want?" I say, "I don't know. He is fixing to tell us." He said, "Lester, is that your name?" I say, "Yes sir, Lester Leo. That's it. I still want to know what you are doing with that butcher knife." He says, "Son, I have come to cut away a bunch of your mother. there is too much of her. She's a little cumbersome. I am going to cut off her left arm, her right leg, her left earflap and her right eye." Can you see this freckled-faced boy - all 80 lbs of him? I'd say, "Man, you'll be lucky to get out of here alive." Listen, I'd climb up to his neck as fast as I could get there and choke him `till I stopped him from breathing.
Now, are you catching on? Then why don't you preachers do something about it? Don't you realize they are butchering our mother, "being born again not of corruptible seed but of incorruptible, by the Word of God which liveth and abideth forever."?
I'm telling you, don't monkey with my mama. I'll fight you about it. I'm mad. There's never been a revival come out of the Revised Standard Version, Good News For Modern Man, Living Bible for dead people - never been anything good come out of them.
You'd say, "Well, it's because you haven't been educated." I don't want any more education than I have now if I have to get like that. I have been to school 19 years of my life, but I am glad I went to school when there wasn't anything but this book - the King James Bible.
I can remember the time when the old preacher would say, "Let's all stand and read in unison." You try that now. Folks, the old preacher was preaching this Book when I got saved. (Bro. Roloff held up his King James Bible).
The old preacher was preaching this Book when God laid His hand on my little old ignorant soul and told me to preach. That Book is the source of everything good I've ever known.
I never dreamed anything like this would ever happen, but Mr. Walter Minden called me to Austin the other day for a 600-seat banquet, for the inauguration or the installation of Governor for the day. He said, "Brother Roloff, will you bring that old Book? I want to be sworn in with the Book that you brought through the battles and won."
That old Bible climbed up in the big place there and he took that Bible and was sworn in. Brother this old Book will see you through. "Man cannot live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."
THE HELPER'S HILL
Aaron and Hur
Did you know Moses was the lawyer - powerful, wonderful man, leader of the greatest group of people of any man that ever lived. He had a tremendous career and yet, he got tired and weary? He had Aarons and Hurs to hold up his hands. I believe that if preacher's hands were held up toward God today, that the Amaleks and the Amalekites would be defeated.
Years ago the Lord laid His hand on me and called me to preach. What about the next Hill? I'm, hurrying to get through some of them.
THE HILL OF MT. CARMEL
God's Prophet - Elijah
We got through with the lawyer - there goes the prophet. He has been hid away now for 42 months. He cut off all the water faucets. God said, "You better go hide" and he did. He came out and was full of the miraculous power of the Lord. Nobody ever stays alone with the Lord without getting a lot of the Lord in him. The nearest thing I've got to getting with Jesus is this Book right here (KJV). That's my entire library. I'm too old to fool with anything else. I have too many burdens - I couldn't make it without this Book right here.
So they met on Mt. Carmel for the contest - vote 450 to 1. He let the ministerial alliance go first. The whole ecumenical movement was present. They were organized and properly robed, but they did not get one spark of fire from Heaven. They cut themselves and blood gushed. They were sincere, but they were wrong.
Elijah said, "Step aside - give me 12 barrels of water." Brother, he is fixing to get up a steam. It takes two things to get up steam and that's water and fire. That means this Book and the Holy Spirit. You get loaded with those and you'll come out with steam.
Then Elijah ran, under the threat of a woman - head of the ERA - (there's nothing new under the sun). "And God requireth that which is past". (Eccl. 3:15) Jezebel said, "What happened to my preachers?" She was told, "They're all dead. Elijah killed every one of them." That sounds like capital punishment.
So we have the greatest lawyer in the world - he killed them. We have the greatest prophet in the world - he killed them. Joshua, he was the understudy. When Achan looked, lusted and took, Joshua killed him and killed Mrs. Achan and all the little Achans. That could be capital punishment. Bible order always works. You don't get it through education, you get it through revelation. "Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in Heaven." (Matt. 16:17)
THE HILL OF MOUNT HOREB
You know Elijah went to juniper jungle, pitched a pity party and was weary and discouraged. God was patient with him. He sent an angel and fed him and with the strength from what God fed him, he climbed to the top of Mt. Horeb. There the Lord let him have a tremendous experience. The wind blew, God was not in it. The earthquake came, God was not in that. Fire burned, God was not in it. In a minute, the Voice came - the Word came.
Dear friend, any fire that you get besides the fire from the Book will be wild fire. You know, Dr. Roberson, I started off with Billy Graham. I have been with him and prayed with him. I have seen him fall on his face and weep. I heard him call the communists vipers and snakes, but there has been a change.
Folks, when you begin to hobnob with the compromisers and the religious leaders, you are going to be in trouble. I am concerned - not just about the fundamentalists. I am looking for a bunch of fundamental fundamentalists. I mean that. I can see a trend that is altogether unhealthy in this country. First of all, I see immorality - marriage and divorce being forgotten. I see some things happening in our country among our people that's not good.
THE HILL OF MOUNT MORIAH
Have you been to Mount Moriah? Many years ago when you had a revival, people used to talk about putting your Isaac on the altar. Have you ever thought about that? God said, "Abraham". What a blessing Abraham has been. I've found that a hundred and some-odd times God talks about Abraham. Think about that. The Book is full of Abraham. You know why? Friend of God and father of the faithful - God likes to talk about him. He and God ran together. They were close companions and God talked about His friends like that.
Friend of God, father of the faithful, but he hung and clung to the promise. You remember that? The bible said, "He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, which he had promised, he was able also to perform." (Romans 4:20-21) He stayed with one thing - not promises, but one promise.
God said, "Abraham, get thee out." That's what He told him. The first thing He told him was, "get out". Abraham said, "Where do you want me to go?" God said, "That's none of your business." Wouldn't it be a fine thing if all of us realized that it's none of our business or anybody elses what we preach, that's God's business. "Get out" and he got out and went to a country God showed him. He took Lot along and Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom and dwelt in Sodom.
A lot of folks today say, "Bro. Roloff, you fight - I'll pray." No, let's fight together, hear? I have enough awards and trophies and plaques to fill a pickup truck, but they don't help build buildings. You get as old as I am, you realize that you have to get with it if you are going to get anything done. I've no time to waste. "Where there's no vision the people perish."
Isaac was laid on the altar. Why, that's his hope - there they are Isaac and his father together. You notice Sarah didn't go. The servants didn't go and little Isaac said, "My father". Abraham said, "Here's the fire, here's the wood, where's the lamb?" Abraham said, "Son, my God will provide Himself a lamb." But Abraham had counted that God was able to raise him up from the dead.
Folks, Abraham's faith didn't argue with God. Faith doesn't talk back. Faith believes. It's not recorded, but I believe maybe little Isaac said, "Father, that butcher knife is getting awful close." He said, "Dad, is this curtains for me?" Abraham said, "Well, if it is, God will raise you up. Don't forget I was 100 years old when you were born. Me and your mama both was plumb dead and if he can raise both of us up, he can raise our boy up." That's faith, isn't it? Hear me tonight, dear friends - he accounted that God was able to keep the promise and He did.
This next one is one of my favorite Hills.
TRANSFIGURATION HILL
Jesus said, "Peter, James and John, let's climb a mountain. They went up there and looked up at a couple of astronauts coming down. You know who they are - Moses and Elijah. There comes the lawyer and the preacher. There they are. You don't get rid of people like that too easy. They may show up anytime.
Space doesn't bother them and they weren't in a space capsule either. They didn't have an oxygen bottle. They landed and they were talking. Maybe the lawyer had his little brief case. He said, "Jesus". Jesus said, "Yet sir, go ahead Mr. Attorney." Moses said "I represent all the people that have gone to Heaven on a promissory note and they sent me to represent them. We want to know if you are on your way to Calvary. I just want to kind of take them some good news back."
I believe Jesus said, "I'll be there. Go back and tell them the note will be paid." I think Elijah hollered, "Amen! Praise the Lord," and maybe preached a message as long as Bob Gray. But there they go. What a wonderful encouragement in the lives of those precious people. Transfiguration.
Then we come to that hated hill when humanism had its heyday and what they thought was their greatest victory, Yes -
GOLGATHA'S HILL
Gethsemane connected with it where Jesus fought His battle of Armageddon. You know, the modernist would make you believe that Jesus had a hard time going to Calvary. They would make you believe that He was in doubt as to whether He would ever get up there.
No, no - I think He nearly had to insult old Pilate to get him to crucify Him. I think Jesus' attitude was "Let's get on with it." Jesus - when sin was at its worst, and Grace was at its best, gave His life on Calvary. But that's not all. Have you ever thought about who killed Jesus?
Have you ever thought about how Moses died? You say, "Moses never did die." Oh, Yes, he died twice. That's one more than he's supposed to. That shows you how people hate the law - I mean the right kind of law.
God said to Moses one day, "Would you like to go up on Pisgah's lofty height, view your home and take your flight?" He said, "I might as well." God said, "Do you feel like walking?" Moses said, "Do I feel like walking" I'm not but 120 - why I guess I do." Then he climbed on top of the hill, looked over in the promised land and the Bible said he died according to Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. "He died according to the Word of the Lord" - wasn't that it? He ought to have known that.
He said, "Lord, is this really my swan song I'm singing up here? Is it all over?" God said, "Sure, you're going to have to die." Moses said, "How? I feel too good to die. I just climbed that hill and I'm not even out of breath - I'm in good shape." God said, "I can take care of it. You are going to die the way you lived. I'm going to let you die by the Word that you lived by."
Folks, why is it necessary to have to look forward to sickness killing us? Why couldn't the Lord just go ahead and say, "You've had it - zap." I think the Lord just said, "Moses, would you like to die happy? How would you like to die?" I believe Moses said, "I would like to die listening to you talk." God said, "OK, die - zap."
He was over. He died happy. He died with a smile and I think the Lord caught him before he hit the ground. The Bible said, "And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died; his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated." (Deut. 34:7)
Then Jesus died on Calvary. You remember old Pilate said one day, "Hey, do you realize I have your life in my hands?" Jesus said, "No you don't. Your whole army couldn't kill me." I can say this for Him - "Your whole army couldn't even break my little finger to save their life." He said, "If you really want to know who's to blame - if somebody is committing sin by killing me, you better talk to my Father because He sent me to die. I came to die and I'm going to die. Now let me get on out there."
Folks, Jesus trip to Calvary was no accident. No sir, it was well planned before the foundation of the world.
Hey, I got something fresh for you. "John, behold your mother." Take care of your mother. You know when I read that, what I think? Behold my Bible. One of the last things Jesus did was to take care of His mother and the last thing I intend to do is take care of my Bible.
"By their fruits ye shall know them." There will be two end-time Bibles among fundamentalists. Now you know that the Catholics have gone a long time ago and the Episcopalians and Methodists and Presbyterians and Southern Baptists - I mean it's all over with them. They couldn't even mock a preacher. You know that.
I don't have the time, but there came a time in my ministry when I got sick of Baptist religion - promotion, organization. I said, "Lord if Enoch walked with God, why can't I?" If other people live by faith, why can't I? In order for the Lord to get you to do it, He won't tell you the outcome. He won't tell you where you're going. He will just say. "Take off."
Isn't it strange to see people today that have drifted away from the Anchor of this old Blessed Book? The King James Bible. They don't have the joy of their salvation. They don't have any songs in the night, not even in the light. Show me a man that is not in love with this Book and I'll show you a man that doesn't have the power and the joy and the glory of God on him. I don't care who you are and how many degrees you have. God will not risk His power with any life unless it is saturated with this Book.
That hated hill. You say, "Who killed Jesus?" The soldiers didn't. Jesus had to kill Himself - had to. After all, if He laid down His life, He had to lay it down, didn't He?
Do you think He said to a Roman soldier, "Would you do me a favor - will you please kill me?" No, I think He gave every drop of His blood and when all of His life ran out, He still wasn't dead. Jesus had to die the same way Moses died - according to the Word of the Lord and He was the Word.
I heard Bro. Curtis Hutson talking about Jesus in the wilderness with the Devil. I believe He took the same Word that I have tonight and defeated the devil and there is no other way to win apart from that.
As I close this message I would like to remind you of these same two blessed witnesses. I read it this afternoon in the 11th chapter of the Book of Revelation. They are street preachers. There they are, walking up and down the street. Here comes your television cameras.
Folks, did you know that 43 years ago when the three shore lines were introduced - ABC, NBC and CBS - that media has completely demoralized America? I have enough clippings written that say there is not one show on television today that presents a woman with young children who's married, secure and happy - not one.
That's what the news clippings say. America has gone down the drain with new Bibles and new entertainment and immorality. I said to you last year when I was here there are three things that's happened.
First - licensed liquor. In my City of Corpus Christi, 30 people have just been killed and 25 of them were full of liquor. They died because of liquor - 25 out of 30. And yet, where are the people that would vote the filth out again? Wicked. America is a drunkard nation.
Number two - she has committed the abortion sin. Just like Pharaoh - we've got to go to the river of destruction. America will not be spared - we are too far gone. Judgment has set in.
Then, Number three - the Sodomites are taking this country over. They operate Houston, Texas - the Mayor and the rest of them. They had 37 deaths and murders in one week in Houston, Texas. Have you ever read that verse that says, "The wages of sin is Death."?
(TORCH EDITOR: Bro. Roloff only saw the beginning of the Sodomites taking over our Government. AMERICA IS ALREADY BEING JUDGED FOR THIS WICKED SIN.)
All right, does that explain why twenty million Herpes victims are rotting with no remedy tonight? No hope, no way and yet, would you believe this report right here? This is from the executive director of the National Herpes Research Foundation, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
He says that Herpes victims do not have to withdraw sexually. In other words, just go ahead and stay with your sin and die. Then he gives the remedy right here. He says, "We favor rational education and expanded research effort as the best ways to fight Herpes." You know what I recommend? The new birth. It is sin. America is rotten to the core tonight.
Now then, the closing thought I want to give you. When these two witnesses are killed in the street - there goes the lawyer and there goes the preacher. There goes the outstanding preacher and the outstanding lawyer - they are dead.
The television camera zooms in and it is announced and flashed around the world - they are dead. Second day, still dead. Nobody wanted to remove them. No funeral home wanted them. Nobody wanted to bury them. Third day, the camera zeroes in and man, they are moving. I see him drop his camera and head out. Folks God's power was with those men. You can't keep God's people killed. "Abel, being dead, yet speaketh."
Have you really trusted the Lord and laid your Isaac on the altar? Have you said, "Lord, all that I am and have I surrender to Jesus?" I am concerned about our Baptist people getting away from the Book. Getting away from the King James Bible!!
Fifty years ago the Lord called me into His ministry and gave me the right Book - the King James Bible. I've seen its fruits and I've never seen this Book defeated. I've never seen a sinner too hard for it to save or a prostitute too dirty for it to purify. There's no drunkard too hard for it to sober, nor a dope head too difficult for it to deliver.
This Book right here. (Bro. Roloff holds up his King James Bible)
I ask you tonight to renew your love for this Book. I ask you students to stay with the Book Let me give you my advice - memorize one chapter every 30 days. Sleep with it, eat with it, live with it.
I would have never made it through the eight years of the battle had it not been for this Book. I could not live today were it not for this Book. There are two terrible years I faced - my first one and my 50th one. I have never known a year like this year - not in my life.
I have never known before the heartaches, the burdens, the tears and the heaviness of the battle like this year. Night before last I was in a motel room and I had a Visitor at 2 o'clock in the morning. That's not strange. He didn't knock. The safety latch was on but that didn't bother Him. He said, "You've gotten all the sleep you'll get tonight."
I had been in the bed two hours. I have never in my life had such pressure as I have had this year. I took this Book and I began to quote chapter after chapter, verse after verse.
I want to share with you Psalm 55. In the most difficult time I have ever known in my life, the Lord gave me this, when I spent two nights on the floor, one in Arizona and one in Florida.
As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me. (Psalms 55:16-18)
You will never believe much more of the Bible than you experience. 2 Cor., chapter 1 - you better mark this - you will need it someday.
"For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us; Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. (2 Corinthians 1:8-11)
Did you read the story of the paraplegic that wanted to learn to fly? With one hand, no legs, except dead legs, one crippled arm. he said, "I want to fly."
The instructor said, "You have to get in the plane by yourself." He climbed in that little old single engine plane. With one hand he left a bloody trail behind. He got in anyway he could. He wanted to fly.
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31) †
