HOW BAD ARE THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS?

Here is an example reported in the School Reform relative to the Detroit public schools. In 1996, only 33% of Detroit high school freshmen graduated four years later, and less than 10% were able to read at grade level.

The moment of truth came when these graduates applied for a job. Only one in four (25%) applicants at Daimler-Chrysler car plants in Detroit can pass a test requiring 10th grade skills, according to the auto maker's human resources director, Roy Williams.

Even fewer pass the entry tests for workers at Bing Steel Co. where 1,000 applicants took the test and only 180 passed. Williams said, "Something has to be done with our schools. Where else can you go for a job that pays $50,000 for a tenth grade education?"

Someone may say all schools are not that bad. No, maybe not, but they are all bad and some are probably worse! This is a tragedy that goes on throughout our land. Christian parents should make any sacrifice necessary to see that their children get a good Christian education. In all honesty we must state that even some Christian schools are not providing a very good education.

(TORCH EDITOR: The liberals would say all we need to provide a good education to our children is more money. THAT IS ALWAYS THEIR ANSWER. More of our tax dollars. Most Bible Believing Preachers would be encouraged in the ministry if they had the same salary arrangement as most public school teachers. Paying ignorant teachers who were educated in the same poor schools more money will not fix the problem.)
